DMZ · Operators
Traits turn your DMZ Operators into specialists. Here’s how the three Trait trees work, the Traits worth aiming for, and how to Prestige an Operator for permanent bonuses.

Extract with an Operator to earn DMZ XP. Each Dog Tag level gives one Trait Point.
Your first point in a tree buys its starting Trait, a random Minor one.
Each branch offers two Major or three Minor Traits. Take one to unlock the next branch.
Nine Traits fill a tree, so 18 points can max two trees or spread across all three.
Choices are permanent until you Prestige, and every Trait raises what it costs to rescue that Operator if they go MIA.
Each Operator’s Dog Tag climbs through six metals with three ranks each: 18 levels, one Trait Point per level.
Kill a player and extract with their Dog Tag to add it to your Dog Tag Case. A higher-level tag shows a more experienced victim.
Each tree’s six Major Traits are always on offer. Minor Traits are random and only show once you reach their branch; the one marked Minor below is an example Activision showed.
Combat and survival in a gunfight
Looting, cash and intel
Revives, recovery and getting out alive
Our picks from the Major Traits, which every Operator can reach. Build one Operator per role and swap between them.
With no one to revive you, a self-revive and a free Wound repair stand in for teammates, and Viper Sense keeps AI from targeting you.
More loot per container and more cash per exfil add up across every deployment.
Keep moving between kills, heal sooner and stay off enemy UAVs while you hunt.
Get teammates up quickly and give the whole squad better intel.

Once an Operator has earned all 18 Trait Points, you can Prestige them. You give up gear and cash, their Traits reset, and they gain a random permanent Prestige Trait that stays with them for good. This is separate from Multiplayer Prestige.
| Prestige | Weapons | Plate Carrier, Backpack and 4 Ingredients | DMZ Cash |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1st Prestige | 2 weapons, 3 attachment slots | Rare rarity or higher | 200,000 |
| 2nd Prestige | 2 weapons, 4 attachment slots | Epic rarity or higher | 300,000 |
| 3rd and later | 2 weapons, 4 attachment slots | Legendary rarity or higher | 500,000 |
There are 66 Traits, 22 in each of the three trees: Warfighter, Scout and Survivalist. Each tree has 6 Major Traits and 16 Minor ones.
Earn DMZ XP with an Operator to level up their Dog Tag. Every Dog Tag level gives one Trait Point, up to 18 at Onyx III.
Not directly: once you pick a Trait it’s locked in. Prestiging the Operator resets their Traits and gives them a permanent Prestige Trait in return.
It depends on how you play. Solo players get the most from Possum and Free Revive, looters from Container Looter and Investor, and PvP hunters from Adrenaline Burst and Thermal Padding.
The Operator goes MIA but keeps their Traits. Pay DMZ Cash to rescue them; the more Traits they have, the more it costs. You can also dismiss them and start a new Operator.
