Multiplayer meta · Launch patch
The best guns in Modern Warfare 4 right now, ranked for Multiplayer. Pick one with a loadout to see the full build.
The strongest overall: fast kills, easy recoil and good on every map. Build these first.
M4LoadoutAssault rifle · All-rounderThe most forgiving gun in the game. Build it for close to mid or mid to long range, and the recoil stays easy either way.
Han 86Assault rifle · High-skill rifleCan out-gun the M4 in the right hands, but asks for more deliberate recoil control.
VEL 46SMG · Close rangeKills slightly faster up close than the ISO, with a forgiving 40-round magazine.
ISO NightshadeLoadoutSMG · All-round SMGKeeps more damage at range than the VEL 46, which makes it the more well-rounded SMG.Strong alternatives, or the best at one job, but less consistent than S-tier.
Patriot XMRAssault rifle · Mid to long rangeLong-range reach without the Kastov’s heavy kick.
AxionAssault rifle · Versatile rifleA dependable rifle that does most jobs well, just not as consistently as the M4 or Han 86.
Kastov 762Assault rifle · Mid to long rangeHits harder and reaches further than the M4, but slower handling and more kick keep it out of S.
X-58 NyxSMG · Aggressive SMGThe pick if the ISO feels too twitchy. Its integrated suppressor suits a stealthy build.
Rezi 12Shotgun · Close quartersUnbeatable in tight corridors and on small maps, but falls off fast at range.
APOC-338LMG · Long sightlinesAt its best locking down a long sightline. Less flexible than the meta rifles once the fight moves.
Mosin-NagantMarksman rifle · PrecisionThe marksman rifle to pick right now. Rewards precise shots at range.Perfectly usable, but a higher-tier gun does the same job better.
OdenAssault rifle · Backup rifleHolds its own, but the rifles above it do the same job more reliably.
Cronen SquallAssault rifle · Backup rifleHolds its own, but the rifles above it do the same job more reliably.
PPSh-41SMG · Close rangeFires faster than the ISO and shines inside 10 metres, but the S-tier SMGs win more fights.
FiNN LMGLMG · Sustained fireA usable LMG, though the APOC-338 does the job better.
MAR-9Marksman rifle · PrecisionUsable, but the Mosin-Nagant is the stronger marksman rifle for now.
Oris 8.6Marksman rifle · Quick-scopePlays like a quick sniper and rewards precise aim, but the Mosin-Nagant is more consistent.
KG-7 VulcanLoadoutSniper rifle · One-shot sniperLaunch toned down flinch and damage on one-shot guns, so it’s less dominant than in the beta.
Signal 50Sniper rifle · Long rangeFine for sniping fans, but the A-tier picks hold long sightlines better. The biggest drawbacks at launch. Still fine if you enjoy them.
Hyeon BurstAssault rifle · Burst rifleUsable if you land your bursts, but the full-auto rifles above it win more fights.
WZ.55 StrigaSMG · Close rangeA short delay before it fires and heavier kick make it hard to beat the meta SMGs.
WarlordShotgun · Close quartersOutclassed by the Rezi 12 in close quarters.
Type 73LMG · Objective LMGBuilt for holding Hardpoints and other objectives, but too slow for most Multiplayer fights.
Astaroth .57Sniper rifle · Long rangeCan one-shot to the lower body at long range, but feels too sluggish for most Multiplayer maps. The M4 is the best all-round gun at launch: the most forgiving recoil, and it can be built for close or long range. For close quarters, the VEL 46 and ISO Nightshade are the SMGs to pick.
M4, Han 86, VEL 46 and ISO Nightshade sit in S-tier: fast kills, manageable recoil and good on every map.

Probably not. This list is for Multiplayer. Expect rifles and marksman guns to rank higher in Warzone’s longer fights once it moves to MW4 in Season 1.
