The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 story is at its best when it stays with Park Hyun-Jun, a young South Korean soldier who sees live combat for the first time when North Korea invades. Captain Price is the bigger name, yet the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 characters who stay with you are Park and his squad.
In our Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 campaign review, Park's war is the center of what we called the series' best story in years, and a big reason the campaign landed an 8/10.
Below, you'll find who Park is, how his war fits next to Price's, and the main cast. Spoilers stay light, and the ending stays out.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Story Summary
Park Hyun-Jun, played by Young Mazino, is the emotional center of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 story.
The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 campaign alternates between Park's war in Korea and Captain Price's off-book revenge hunt.
16 missions, mostly linear, with Park and Price carrying most of them.
Following Orders puts you in a North Korean soldier's boots, and the discomfort is deliberate.
Mads Mikkelsen's Archer is excellent in every scene but gets too little screen time.
Who Is Park Hyun-Jun in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4?

Park Hyun-Jun is a young South Korean private facing live combat for the first time after North Korea launches a full-scale invasion, as Activision lays out on the official Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 campaign page. The invasion starts the night an EMP knocks out Hajin City, and his first missions put you in the middle of it.
Young Mazino plays him as a soldier barely holding together, and that fragility gives his missions a weight Price's half lacks. His squad, Sierra-1, includes Sergeant So Jae-Woo, Cho Han (Chow), and the American Joseph Dunn, under First Lieutenant Reginald West.
By Losing Ground, one of Park's early missions, we knew Jae, Chow, Dunn and West by voice alone. PC Gamer's reviewer called them familiar types, but their names stick.
Next to Price, Park works as a counterweight. Lead narrative designer Justin Harris said in Infinity Ward's behind-the-scenes videos that he wanted to capture the anguish of conscripts, and Park is that idea with a face.

How Park's War and Price's Revenge Fit Together
The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 campaign runs on two threads. The second belongs to Captain Price (Barry Sloane), who operates outside the rules he once upheld, with Task Force 141 disbanded and former allies hunting him. Per Activision, his revenge hunt leads toward a weapon able to tip the wider war.
His missions move from New York to Paris and Mumbai, and he forms an uneasy alliance with cartel leader Valeria Garza along the way. Sloane plays him as an outlaw with no chain of command, and his half runs colder.
Scenes jump between the two leads and back and forth in time, and it stays easy to follow. Price's half opens days before the invasion, so his chapters fill in the bigger picture behind Park's fight.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 also wraps up the Price arc that began with the 2019 reboot. The ending hit harder than we expected, but the final fight feels short for everything the game builds toward.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Characters and Cast
Most of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 cast sits on one side of the split, Korea or Price's hunt.
Character | Played by | Role |
|---|---|---|
Park Hyun-Jun | Young Mazino | Private in Sierra-1 |
So Jae-Woo | Jae Kim | Sergeant in Sierra-1 |
Captain John Price | Barry Sloane | Former Task Force 141 captain, now a fugitive |
Valeria Garza | María Elisa Camargo | Cartel leader allied with Price |
The Archer | Mads Mikkelsen | Leader of the Konni PMC |
Kate Laswell | Rya Kihlstedt | Price's former CIA handler |
Ghost and Gaz | Samuel Roukin, Elliot Knight | Former teammates sent after Price |
Mads Mikkelsen is excellent every time the Archer shows up, and the game keeps him offscreen far too often. Why cast him and then hide him? One scene-by-scene count puts all of his appearances together at a little over 20 minutes.
Following Orders is the hardest mission to sit through. You play a North Korean soldier hunting a defector in a border village, pressuring the locals with contraband. Optional dialogue lets you calm or intimidate them, and neither changes the outcome. It's uncomfortable on purpose, and it works.
Criticism of the setting started before launch. Dr Sarah Son, a Korean studies lecturer at the University of Sheffield, told the BBC the setting could prove controversial, since it turns a still-unresolved war into entertainment.

Final Words
Price's arc does its job as a farewell, but Park is the reason the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 story feels fresh. PC Gamer's reviewer even said a whole campaign could have been built around Park's squad.
Infinity Ward now has a younger lead it could carry forward. Whether Activision brings Park back in a future entry is anyone's guess.
Campaign early access opened on October 16 for digital pre-orders, and the full game launches on October 23, 2026, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
